Making a comeback

SHARAPOVA RETURNS AFTER DOPING SUSPENSION

Following a 15-month suspension due to the use of meldonium which was recently banned by the World Anti-Doping agency, Maria Sharapova will return to the court on her own in the Bank of the West Classic. After reaching a career-high ranking of No. 1 in 2005, she comes back into the game ranked 173.

Though she has been forced to take a year off, she won in doubles in a recent World TeamTennis match, and team coach Rick Leach told Tennis that he thought she would “be back in the top five in just a matter of time.”

At 6-foot-2 and 30 years of age, Sharapova will return to the singles tennis world at the Bank of the West Classic as a wild card.
